When it comes to silk sheets, quality is indicated by momme (silk weight) instead of thread count. The higher the momme, the more silk was used to make the item, and the softer and stronger the fabric will be. For example, sheets that are 19-momme will feel lighter and thinner than 25- or 30-momme sheets.

Silk quality is also graded on a scale from A–F with further subdivisions 2–6 that consider qualities like thread density, luster, and whether the fabric has many silk lumps.

The gold standard for silk products of any kind is 6A.
